Title:
Quagmire ciphers and group theory: What is a Beaufort cipher?
Authors: Thomas Kaeding
Abstract:We show that a Beaufort cipher is simultaneously both a quagmire 1 and a quagmire 2 cipher, which includes it in the set of quagmire 4 ciphers as well, albeit as a degenerate one. The Beaufort is one of a family of ciphers that share this property.
