Hybrid Signal protocol for post-quantum email encryption

Abstract:The Signal protocol is used in many messaging applications today. While it is an active research topic to design a post-quantum variant of the protocol, no such variant is currently realized in the real world. In the following document we describe a hybrid version of the Signal protocol, that will be implemented to achieve post-quantum security for Tutanota’s end-to-end encrypted e-mails.
