On the construction of S-boxes using the leaders and followers metaheuristic

Abstract:Modern block ciphers are facing the threat of side-channel attacks by power leakage whose main target are the non-linear components known as S-boxes. A theoretical measure for the resistance of an S-box against this type of attacks is the confusion coefficient variance property. A higher value of this property represents a better theoretical resistance. In this work we use the leaders and followers meta-heuristic in order to achieve good confusion coefficient variance’s valued S-boxes.
